Day 1 – Arrival Day – Saturday 19 September
- Meet in Hualien, Taiwan
- Set up bikes and optional test ride
Getting there: Train from Taiwan Airport to Taipei Main Station then take the Tze-Chiang Limited Express train from Taipei Main Station to Hualien Station (approximately 2.5 hours)
Day 2 – Sunday 20 September
- Easy coastal ride to test the bikes and ensure you are ready for the KOM
Day 3 – Monday 21 September
- Taiwan KOM! Ride this stunningly beautiful and very challenging climb, fully supported with no time limits

Expect 220km of riding today.
The route begins at sea level on the eastern coast and then takes riders through the Taroko Gorge climbing to Taiwan’s highest passable road apex atop Route 14A to Wuling Pass.You will climb from 0m to up to 3,275 metres over 108km with stunning views, tunnels and amazing tree canopies.
The gradient starts at a simple 0-2 % for the first 20kms and then turns into a steady 6% average gradient until the final 9.5 kms, where the real challenge begins. You will traverse gradients from 10% to 22 % as you pitch hairpin curves to the finish line.
The support van will be with us the entire way to provided water, nutrition and additional layers for the ride down.
We would expect anywhere from 4 to 6 hours to complete the climb up and around 2.5 hours for the descent. Today is an epic day out that you won’t forget!
Day 4 – Tuesday 22 September
- Rest day
- Transfer train back to Taipei
- Optional ride in the afternoon
- Dumplings and food expedition
Day 5 – Wednesday 23 September
- Ride the fabulous ‘Palm’ route
- Support vehicle
- Group dinner and celebration
Day 6 – Departure Day – Thursday 24 September
- Morning ride around Taipei
- Departure day

What kit should I wear?
September is the start of Autumn in Taiwan and average temperatures for the month are around 30 °C at sea level.
The weather can change rapidly in the mountains. For the KOM you will be climbing above 3000 metres, so expect that temperatures will drop significantly. The support car will be there to carry thermals, jacket and gloves for you.
